Inauguration of the Dome & Mausoleum of Shaykh Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani

The grand inauguration of the Dome and Mausoleum of Shaykh al-Islam al-Hafiz Abu al-Fadl Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani took place in Dhu al-Hijjah 1445 (July 2024), marking a significant milestone in preserving and celebrating Islamic heritage. The ceremony was honourably commenced by Dr Shaykh Hasan al-Shafi’i, a revered teacher of Dr Badreldeen Ismail al-Husayni. Dr Shaykh al-Shafi’i has made extensive contributions to Islamic studies and philosophy, underscoring the event’s significance in both the academic and cultural realms.

Born in 1930, Dr Shaykh al-Shafi’i earned a bachelor's degree in Arabic Language and Islamic Studies from Dar Al-Oloum (Home of Science) School at Cairo University and a Bachelor of Theology from the College of Theology (Osoul Eddin) at Al-Azhar University, both in 1963. He later obtained a PhD in Islamic Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies in London in 1977. Dr Shaykh al-Shafi’i contributed to the foundation of the Islamic University in Islamabad in 1979 and subsequently returned to Egypt to serve as a professor of Arabic and Islamic Studies at Cairo University.

Throughout his distinguished academic career, Dr Shaykh al-Shafi’i authored several influential studies on Islamic Theology and Philosophy, solidifying his reputation as a leading scholar in the field. His presence at the inauguration underscored the profound academic and cultural significance of the project, highlighting the enduring legacy of Islamic scholarship.
