Elevating Heritage, Embracing Reform.
We aim to create an intellectual space that engages with Eastern and Western classical traditions, guided by two central principles: scholarly depth and accessibility at the heart of everything we do.
Beginning this December, The Classical Institute welcomes Dr Simon Trépanier, Senior Lecturer in Classics at the University of Edinburgh, to lead The Homeric Gods and Their First Philosophical Critics, a four-part seminar series. Dr Trépanier is an established specialist in ancient Greek philosophy with research spanning the Presocratics, Plato, Epicureanism and Lucretius, and a particular interest in the emergence of philosophy and its relationship to religion, literature, and wider society.
This is a rare opportunity to learn from a leading scholar and to engage directly with one of the defining intellectual turning points of the ancient world.
Registration is now open.
Please see the details of Seminar One, Greek Religion: From Homer to Cult and a First Critic- Xenophanes, along with the full programme information below.
A new field of study is inaugurated, bringing Christian Theology and Scripture into focus through the study of early texts and formative currents of Christian thought.
Study begins with Biblical Hebrew, engaging directly with the language of the Hebrew Bible to grasp the structures and concepts shaping its earliest traditions.
Students examine early Christian writings, including texts attributed to Thomas, Peter, and Judas, tracing the development of ideas that influenced emerging Christian doctrine.
The seminar series expands this inquiry, exploring how Judaism, Christianity, and Islam conceived the Divine in their early traditions. Explore all our programmes on our Programmes page.
